A mason jar of moonshine sits on the ground in front of the natural stone and clay furnace of a moonshine still. The still cap and cap arm are visible, as is a very small section of the thump keg. The worm box and wooden flume are visible in the background. Although no flames are visible in this photograph of the open furnace, (glowing coals are visible in the color version) smoke fills the air in and around the furnace. The late afternoon sun has caused light rays to be visible in the smoke in front of the furnace. The thick mountain laurel thicket help to hide this still which is located in the woods of Western North Carolina.
Smoke From Moonshine Still in Black and White was photographed by Greg Mimbs
Although this still could be modified to produce moonshine, it was set up as a display only. All visible parts are accurate. No laws were broken during the production of these photographs.
