Description
This black and white photograph shows one graves at Saint Louis Cemetery Number 1 in New Orleans. Made from bricks, the tomb is designed to allow the body to be placed within the chamber, which in the New Orleans heat becomes oven-like. After enough time, the body becomes bones only, at which time another body may be placed in the tomb. The openings of the tombs have the look of a brick oven.
The deep blacks and wonderful midtones and highlights of this black and white photograph will make a wonderful piece for any collection.
A color version of Brick Oven Grave is also available.
Several photographs of this historic New Orleans cemetery are also available in our New Orleans Gallery as well as our Cemeteries Gallery.
