This black and white photograph shows the outside of No Name Deli & Restaurant in Murphy, North Carolina. The side of the deli is decorated with the old metal signs of the past. These signs include Esso, Standard Service, Deuco Batteries, A&P, Coca-Cola and Royal Crown Cola.
To me, the most importaint feature of this photo is the shadow which falls on the No Name Deli & Restaurant. The shadow of McDonald's. This shadow of such a well know fast food giant, along with the name of the deli, makes such a strong metaphorical statement.
The deep blacks, crisp, clean whites and wonderful midtones of this photo makes "In The Shadow of McDonald's" a wonderful addition to any Fine Art Collection. The visual metaphor makes this photograph an even better choice as the conversation and thoughts provoked by this piece are almost endless.
