A lone tree makes it final stand on the eroding sands of Jekyll Island, Georgia. The long shadow helps to emphasize it's distance from life. This black and white photograph shows the driftwood tree in the bottom third of the photo, it's shadow stretching back toward the viewer. The upstretched limbs of the dead tree reach toward the sun at the top right of the photograph. The ocean is visible in the background behind the tree as it awaits hightide when it will again attack the bare roots of the tree.
